Writing Short Stories

Wednesdays at 6:00 pm March 26—April 30, 2008

Fiction is perhaps the purest form of storytelling. A tale is told with only words and the reader’s imagination. From these things, a work of fiction can explore the lives of a past generation or bring the predator into your own closet, luring the reader into a story that reads true. Be it fiction, or your family tales, you can write short stories!

To do it well however, requires skill. In this course, you will learn how to support your words with such craft elements as character, plot, description, and dialogue. Utilizing writing exercises in the development of your story, first-time and novice writers will build writing skills.

Whether you seek to write short stories or family history, traditional or experimental, comic or tragic, we'll show you how to turn your ideas into stories that people will be eager to read. This six-week course, from 6:00 pm—8:00 pm, will begin in the Mariposa Arts Council’s 5th Street Gallery.

With his latest publication to print, Instructor, C. B. Mosher, will guide, encourage, and critique works is this fun and non-threatening course.

Another of Mosher’s short stories (this one set in Mariposa) is being read on Public Radio this fall. He has a novel in print, and short stories on e-magazines and in literary magazines, including ZYZZYVA, a Literary Magazine of national circulation based in San Francisco. Call to Register: (209) 966-3155.
